Riley Logistics
A 120kWp solar array powering 24 fleet EV chargers for a Yorkshire logistics operator — enabling carbon-neutral last-mile delivery at dramatically lower fuel costs.
The challenge
Riley Logistics was transitioning their last-mile delivery fleet to electric vans to meet customer sustainability requirements. However, the cost of charging 24 vehicles overnight from the grid was prohibitive — and the depot's grid connection wasn't rated for simultaneous overnight charging.
The integrated solution
Alliant Energy designed a fully integrated solution: a 120kWp rooftop solar array generating daytime energy, a 200kWh battery system storing surplus generation, and 24 smart 22kW EV chargers with dynamic load balancing — preventing grid overload while ensuring all vehicles are charged by 6am.
Results
The solar array generates 110,000 kWh/year. Combined with smart overnight charging on an Octopus tariff, Riley Logistics has cut their fleet energy costs by £19,500/year compared to standard grid tariff charging. Carbon emissions from their delivery operations have fallen by 85%.
