The project

Highfield School had ageing energy infrastructure and electricity bills consistently exceeding £50,000/year. The governing body wanted to reduce costs while demonstrating environmental responsibility and providing real-world STEM learning opportunities for students.

Our approach

Alliant Energy installed 160 panels across the main school building and sports hall during the summer holidays — ensuring zero disruption to the school year. We also installed monitoring displays in the school reception and science department so students can track live generation data.

Impact

The system generates 74,000 kWh/year — covering 65% of the school's daytime electricity demand. Annual savings of £11,500 have been ringfenced for STEM equipment by the governing body. The solar data feeds into the Year 9 physics curriculum as a real-world energy study.
